Babysitting to Event Production
I get really random around here, consider this your warning.
I got to thinking about how Christina and I know each other. Fun fact: I used to babysit her. Funner fact: I was her favorite babysitter.
I also got to thinking about how my daughter needs a little job (she’s eight, but we aren’t raising any freeloaders around here, lol). This is also an #eventparent post.
Then I got to thinking about how I’ve heard event planner/producers call themselves glorified babysitters. In fact, I have definitely said that before (probably last week).
Those three thoughts combined lead me down a rabbit hole of the similarities between babysitting and event production. So, here we go.
The Similarities between Event Production and Babysitting
Coordination and Planning
Just like event production, good babysitting requires planning and coordination. You need to know what activities will keep everyone entertained and happy, and you have to be prepared for anything that might come up.
Managing Expectations
Both roles involve managing expectations – for babysitting, it’s about keeping the kids (and their parents) satisfied, while in event production, it’s about ensuring the clients and guests have an unforgettable experience.
Problem-Solving Skills
Unexpected issues? No problem! Whether it's a toddler tantrum or a last-minute event hiccup, babysitters and event producers both need to think on their feet and come up with quick, effective solutions.
Creativity and Fun
Keeping kids entertained and engaged requires creativity, just as creating memorable event experiences does. Whether it’s fun activities for kids or unique elements for an event, creativity is a must.
Patience and Calmness
Both babysitting and event production can be high-pressure, so maintaining patience and staying calm under pressure is crucial. This helps create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved.
Communication
Clear and effective communication is essential in both roles. Babysitters need to communicate with kids and parents, while event producers must coordinate with clients, vendors, and team members to ensure everyone is on the same page.
So what do you think?
